Stubble Damage

Strong crops need strong tires. As seed genetics continue to advance, today’s crops are becoming stronger and sturdier, which is good for yield, but not so good for your ag tires. Stubble damage can stop fieldwork in its place, but there are ways to minimize its impact on your valuable tires.

What is stubble damage?

Stubble are the stalks that get cut during harvest and left in the field. Although only inches off the ground, they are stronger than they look, offering relatively no give to heavy equipment or ag tires as they roll through the fields during harvest. These stalks are strong enough to puncture and slowly eat away at the rubber on ag tires, causing stubble damage to appear. Luckily, we have a few solutions you can offer your customers.

Stubble Damage Recommendations

Our first recommendation would be stubble shoes to help protect your tires from stubble damage. Stubble shoes are put on your combine head to knock down the stalks at their root, making them bend easier as equipment rolls through the field, overall preventing stubble damage. Straddle dual drives for your combine can also help reduce stubble damage by offering enough space and guidance between rows to help avoid running into or directly over the strong stalks. We recommend these dual sizes: 520/85R42, 580/85R42, 620/70R42, & 650/85R38.

Seed genetics will continue to make stalks stronger and sturdier, which means the issue of stubble damage isn’t going away, so we are doing what it takes to stay ahead of seed genetic advancements and help keep ag tires in top-notch condition. If you have any questions on stubble or want to explore tire and wheel solutions that help avoid stubble damage, give us a call.
